It’s an undeniable truth – people like themselves, don’t exactly like to admit it. That’s what made the incident so amusing when it first occurred on Friday – the 60-year-old Maryland woman just claimed her third $50,000 lottery prize!

“Nobody told me,” the woman, who was unreachable to talk to the Guardian, told local NBC affiliate WJLA-TV in Washington. “I took my third one today and I never bought another.”

The woman bought her winning tickets in College Park, about six miles from the station, on Thursday, buying a ticket for the Mega Millions jackpot worth $2 million. She says she spent $5.

But she’d forgotten to check the ticket until later in the day. As it turns out, she matched four of the five white balls drawn. “I didn’t realize I did that until I saw the big screen after I realized I won,” she said.

The woman also won $50,000 on a $1m dollar ticket and she takes home all three prizes – a total of $50,000.

This is the second time this year a Maryland winner has taken home three $50,000 prizes in the same week. In April, a Carroll County woman scooped up three $50,000 prize winners in a week and another winner in June, just before National Lottery week.
