Avril Lavigne announces first tour in over a decade

The singer, who’s making a comeback with Hello Kitty sunglasses and retro leather gear, will play 11 shows across Canadian provinces in the spring

Avril Lavigne, the Canadian singer-songwriter-dancer-actress known for hits such as Complicated and Complicated, has announced plans for her first cross-Canada tour in more than a decade.

Lavigne, who released her 11th studio album, Head Above Water, earlier this year, will play 11 shows across Canada in spring 2019, in an attempt to inject some energy back into her career following a difficult decade of legal issues, substance abuse and a failed wedding to Nickelback frontman Chad Kroeger.

In a clip released on her new video album, she said the tour was a “therapy tour for me”.

A week after its release, Lavigne released an invitation to attend the tour on her Instagram Stories, captioning the post with a quote from Iggy Pop: “Life gets better with time.”

She later expanded that to mean not just time to relearn what is happy in life, but to “give back what is good for yourself and your friends”. She added in a post on Instagram that the tour will be a “happy time of music”.

In February, Lavigne confirmed she was engaged to longtime boyfriend, Grammy-nominated indie band the Faint’s Cory Gladysz, after a flurry of engagement rumours around the singer.

Lavigne is not the only celebrity taking up fitness in 2018. Katy Perry was photographed on a morning run with her dog and Kardashian sisters Kim and Kourtney wore tight black leggings for the QuickTrim workout brand’s sponsored training session.
