Shots fired at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta Airport

(CNN) — A suspect opened fire at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport Friday night, the Atlanta Police Department said.

A bystander died and two airport police officers were hurt, authorities said.

An officer from the Atlanta Airport Police Department was able to stop the suspect, police said.

He told investigators he accidentally discharged a weapon in a cab that he was driving as he was en route to the airport, CNN affiliate WSB-TV reported.

Details were still scant Friday night, and authorities said they were unsure how many people were injured.

No immediate suspects have been identified.

In a tweet, Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed asked for the public’s patience and patience while the investigation continues.

Shortly after the shooting, travelers and airport staff were evacuated from the terminals and buses were brought in to take them to another part of the airport, authorities said.
