Kenny G is stopping in NYC! This week in music, art and tech

Story highlights Kenny G will bring his timeless and legendary sound to New York for his International tour.

There are musicals and then there are the Broadway musicals.

Kenny G will headline a concert at Madison Square Garden, followed by a sold-out performance at The Royal Theater in Ireland.

If you’re a theater aficionado (and, you know, just a fan of The Divine Comedy), you’ll be excited to learn that Kenny G will be stopping by New York to bring his magical voice to life. The legendary singer and saxophonist is known for his smooth voice and soulful sax, which has contributed to his status as one of the world’s most famous saxophone players.

During his 75-year career, Kenny G has earned himself six Grammy nominations and eight J.F.K. Awards. He has collaborated with fellow artists such as David Bowie, Eric Clapton, John Mellencamp, Mike Love, Kenny G, Jeff Beck, Ashford & Simpson, Kelis, LeAnn Rimes, The Edge, Snoop Dogg, Soopafly, Darryl ‘DMC’ McDaniels and J Rome.

The legendary saxophonist released his first album, “Accompaniment to a Song” (in 1973), which featured the song “In a Silent Way,” which he was nominated for Grammys for Song of the Year and Record of the Year. In 1996, Kenny G was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame.

In 2010, he released his sixth studio album, “Kenny G Live at Madison Square Garden.” One of his most popular songs is “Heart of Glass,” which he recorded for the 2006 movie, “Ghost Rider.” A year later, he released “Kenny G Live at The Royal Garden Theatre,” which featured a tribute to Ol’ Dirty Bastard, who died in 2004. Kenny G joined other artists including the Jacksons and Stevie Wonder as part of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame’s “Inspiration Class of 2010.”

Tickets for Kenny G’s New York concert on July 12 and The Royal Theater in Dublin, Ireland on July 20 are on sale now.

Now, let’s get to some of the best recent TV shows.

About Power of the Dog

In the 20th episode of “Star Trek: Discovery,” viewers see the Borg take the revenge on the U.S.S. Shenzhou by attacking the crew of the vessel and eventually overwhelming the group.

Following this episode, over 200,000 people signed a petition on Change.org and petitioned CBS to give the “Star Trek” character Pike the chance to ride in the U.S.S. Enterprise (which was used for episodes that never aired.)

Pike takes center stage in the new series “Power of the Dog,” where he is played by Bruce Greenwood (“The West Wing”).

In the first season, fans will finally learn more about the Borg using an animated series, a CGI and 4K digital cinema environment and a new feature film.
